Hello there!
Some of you may not know me and that’s absolutely okay! My name is Vincent and I am an office assistant and occasional clinician at Pathfinders. Joey and I are the only guys that work here, so we aren’t hard to distinguish.
Anyway, while I spend most of my time organizing children’s books, garnering many an undeserved paper cut, and running assorted errands, I had the pleasure of working with a delightful young man for about half a year.
Charming, silly, and incredibly sweet, this boy has undoubtedly changed my life. I could almost call him one of my best friends, if you can believe it!
We began our journey this summer during a Creative Writing Workshop where students worked with various varieties of poems, fictional and nonfictional short stories and persuasive writing to express personal ideas and have fun. This particular student loved the workshop (and for several months afterword asked me to do it with him again!). Exceptionally creative and humorous, the boy’s magnum opus was his story of how the Witch from Hansel and Gretel came back to life and the children had to fight her off with a tank!
Fast forward six months. He has been coming to Pathfinders anywhere from two to four days a week working on homework. His parents and teachers are proud of his noticeable improvement in his overall schoolwork, specifically concentration and energy levels.
He has now moved to a different country where he will be working with four other students to a teacher and will receive the personal attention he needs. While it pains me to see him go, and know that that is what is best for him.
Thank you for all the times we shared together. Thank you for making me laugh everyday. Thank you for working through the hard stuff and enjoying the play time. I will always be with you.
And thank all of you for reading this long blog. I hope I didn’t lose your attention. I just wanted to share the story of a boy who completely changed my life without ever knowing it.
Vincent
