SimpleMind
SimpleMind is an amazing app that allows its user to create organized visual representations of the scattered, unfocused thoughts that run through our minds. It’s an upgraded to-do list, a brainstorming activity, and an attention and focus exercise all in one.
When you open the application, you will start a new Mind Map and enter the central idea or theme. You can then add topics and subtopics using little balloons that all connect back to the main theme. Each topic is a different color, which lets you see the overall organization of your tasks or ideas at a quick glance. The layout is not linear, like a list, but spatial. You can form a Mind Map in any shape or form that best suits you.
This app could be used as the first step in a daily homework routine to organize assignments, recognize which classes have the most work, or which subjects are going to take the most time. It would be great as a brainstorming tool for an essay or other creative assignment to organize thoughts and recognize connections. A Mind Map could also be created for a specific topic in a challenging subject, like cell processes in biology or causes and effects of a specific law in history, and used as a study tool. This app can be used in so many ways!
A free version, called SimpleMind Free, has all of the features discussed above. The full version is $4.99 and has more features, such as adding photos or images, using arrows to show relations, and printing or exporting Mind Maps. SimpleMind is available for Andriod, iPhone/iPad, Mac, and Windows.
