Matt was a boy that didn’t have eye contact when being spoken to and had a low and almost inaudible murmur when he talked. It was evident that he felt uncomfortable right from the beginning of starting at Pathfinders. He also would not be able to complete a statement without it sounding like it was in the form of a question.
After several weeks of intensive cognitive training, Matt felt more confident and less apprehensive about school work and his homework. By building more efficient mental tools for thinking and learning, Matt was able to grow more self-assured and certain of his attention, memory and processing skills.
Currently, Matt is back in school and really attacking the work that he has been assigned. He remembers that before Pathfinders, he didn’t really understand the teacher’s directions but not only does he understand directions now, he is able to remember to take down notes and be organized with his assignments. His vocal volume has increased and he is less apprehensive about his abilities in school. What amazing progress that can be made by spending time and energy building a strong foundation of processing skills to support school work! The saying “no pain, no gain” is demonstrated in Matt’s hard work these past few months, and what a wonderful thing to know that the progress made will be retained for a lifetime!
