Eating the wrong types of food can lead to fatigue, memory loss and lack of concentration. According to Dr. Daniel G. Amen, author of Healing ADD, choosing to consume unhealthy food as a lifestyle choice can ultimately shrink the decision-making parts of your brain. In order to avoid this, here are some brain boosting options that can positively improve brain function, especially in those with ADHD:

Quench your thirst with water, loads of it

Did you know that your brain is made up of 80 percent water? This means when it is dehydrated from drinking too much caffeine, alcohol or even sweating from an exercise, your thinking is decreased and judgement is weakened. The average amount of water an individual is recommended to consume daily, depends on the person and their lifestyle. Dr. Mercola explains that it is most important to listen to your body and look for signs of dehydration when it comes to drinking enough water. With that said, drink plenty of water to give your brain the energy it needs to survive the day.

Eat your daily dose of protein

Maintaining a higher protein diet can help individuals who struggle with ADHD by reducing food cravings and most importantly, keeping blood sugar levels stable. When protein is processed through the body it makes neurotransmitters that are essential for a healthy brain function.
